Happy Monster Pins

We started making monster pins using a recycled pin method we found in Recycled Crafts. But this method was a bit complicated for kids. So we ended up trying a few other things. Here are the directions for the much easier to make Glamourous Monster pins above.

 

Materials

Used button pins

Polly Pocket Shoes

Wiggle Eyes

Fake Fur

Hot Glue

Large Sequins

Trim (lace, sequins, ribbon, shapes)

Rubber cording (you can use rubber necklace cord. We cut up broken headphone cords for the legs above.)

Felt

Directions

1. Cut a square of fake fur.

2. Glue to button pin.

3. Cut a crescent from the bottom of a large sequin.

4. Glue to pin as monster’s mouth.

5. Glue on wiggly eye.

6. Cut rubber cording for legs.

7. Add dot of glue to bottom of cording and stick into small shoe. Repeat.

8. Glue legs to back side bottom edge of fake fur.

9. Cut a small piece of felt and place it over glue and legs to secure.

10. Glue on trim like ribbon for decoration.

Tip: If you run out of button pins, you can use a piece of stiff felt for back and glue on pinback.

 

Other ways to make Monster Pins:

These Pins were made by covering large recycled button pins with Modge Podge, placing fabric over button, then coating with Modge Podge again. Details were glued on when Modge Podge was drying. Hot Glue had to be used to secure buttons with heavy felt (like Cookie Monster). These were harder to make, but we still had fun making them.

This monster was made using the modge podge method.This pin was made by coiling a pipe cleaner and gluing it to a button pin.

Easy Pumpkin Earrings and Pendant

 

This Jewelry is super easy to make and fun to wear.  C made the witch’s finger out of a stick, green marker, and red nail polish.

 

Materials:

1. Beads

2. Headpins

3. Hooks for Earrings

4. Coated Wire for Pendant

5. Needle Nose pliars. (If you do not have these, you can make loops around the end of a small paintbrush.)

Earring Directions

1. Put round bead on headpin. (We used 2 orange fire polished beads we purchased from Shipwreck Beads.)

2. Add small green bead. (These came from Fire Mountain Beads.)

3. Add a small loop in wire. See the link for directions.

4. Add Earring hoops.

Pendant Directions

1. Add large orange bead to headpin. (Fire Mountain)

2. Twist a piece of green coated wire around a toothpick, leaving a closed loop on one end.

3. Put wire on headpin.

4. Add green bead. (Fire Mountain)

Stamped and Painted Treat Jars

 

 

For Painted Jars

 Materials:

 1. Empty glass jars

2. Acrylic paint

3. Paint brushes

 

 Directions:

 1. Paint the jars and lids any way you want!

 

For Stamped Jars

Materials

 1. StazOn ink pad

2. Foam stamps

3. Empty Glass Jars

 

Directions

 1. Apply ink to stamp pad and stamp on jar!

(Note: think of this as “wrapping paper” for your jar. The ink will wipe off of jars, so use as a quick and cute decoration, but don’t expect it to last a long time. Painted images will last longer. Handwash the interiors gently if you want to reuse.)

Classy Glassy Halloween Pendants

Materials:

Large Glass Beads

Smaller clear and black beads

StazOn Black Ink Pad

Headpin

Glaze (We used Glassy Accents.)

Foam Stamps (We purchased ours at Dollar General.)

 Directions:

1. Select a foam stamp and place it in StazOn ink.

2. Gently but firmly apply stamp to bead and allow to dry.

3. Use Glaze to cover inked area and allow to dry.

4. Thread small bead onto head pin, add stamped bead, and another small bead.

5. Create a loop in headpin.

The glaze gives the ink a raised look.

Tips:

StazOn ink pads have permanent ink, so they will dry beautifully on glass.  But the stamps will wipe off! So you must coat the ink with something. Glassy Accents or similar products have a glass-like sheen. If you coat just the inked areas it will look like raised glass. Very Cool.

We were surprised by how well the foam stamps worked. We tried our rubber ones, but they didn’t conform to curves in the glass as well as the foam stamps did.

Halloween Table Tree

We were inspired to create this tabletop decoration after seeing similar ones in stores.  For the first ones we created, we transformed leftover yellow and white store bought “Easter Trees”. Then we created one from scratch, using an oak branch and an old flower pot.

Materials

 1. Dried tree branch

2. Flower pot

3. Cardboard

4. Scissors

5. Glue

6. Black Acrylic Paint

8. Rocks

9. Glitter

10. Assorted Small Halloween items (We used leftover favors and jewelry from other years.)          

 

 Directions

 1. Find a dead tree branch (we cut ours off of the deadened part of a tree)

2. Paint the branch black

3. Brush a small amount of glitter onto wet paint

4. Turn flower pot over onto cardboard and trace a circle

5. Cut out circle slightly smaller than the one you traced onto the cardboard. (Eventually, it will need to fit into the pot slightly below the top.)

6. Punch hole in middle of cardboard circle (to insert branch into later)

7. Spread glue onto circle and cover with glitter

8. Paint flower pot black

9. Sprinkle glitter onto wet pot if desired

10.When glue and glitter and glue is dry, assemble tree by adding rocks to the flower pot to keep it stable, then putting bottom of branch into cardboard circle and inserting into the flower pot. Use hot glue if to keep branch and circle in place if needed.

11. Now tie or glue items onto the tree.  Add glitter to desired items, like we did with the spiders!

Mummy Pencil

We’ve been thinking up some quick, easy and adorable Halloween crafts!  We’re going to share the quickest and easiest one today.  To make the mummy pencil you need:

Materials:

1. Pencil

2. Self sticking gauze

3. Black Sharpie

4. Glue

5. Wiggly eyes, if desired.

Directions:

1. Cut gauze into thin strips.

2. Wrap gauze around pencil.  If you start at the bottom and wind gauze around a few times before continuing upward, you should be able to unwrap later in order to sharpen pencil. Make sure to wrap gauze around pencil a few extra times where arms and head of mummy would be so that your pencil ends up being shaped like a mummy!

3. Using Sharpie, draw a mouth on the pencil.

4. Using glue, add wiggly eyes. (You can draw them on instead, if you want.)

5. If needed, dot glue on loose ends of gauze to secure.
